What Makes Psychic Abilities Possible

ree

So a lot of scientists have been trying to figure out what’s really behind psychic functioning and what makes it possible. The way psychic phenomena are tested in labs often strips away the very conditions in which they seem to happen most naturally.

Most scientific tests of ESP or psychic functioning are designed to eliminate bias, randomness, and external influence. They often use things like Zener cards (with symbols) or computer-generated targets. These are set up in sterile, emotionless environments meant to be as controlled as possible. From a scientific perspective, that’s necessary to reduce error. But from the perspective of psychic functioning, that’s often the very reason results are flat.

What they're missing is emotion, which is the key to our connections. Stories of genuine psychic moments often come from high-stakes, emotionally charged situations:

  • A mother sensing her child is in danger

  • Loved ones knowing when someone has died or been injured

  • People experiencing premonitions before accidents

These situations aren’t about guessing a symbol on a card. They’re about deep emotional connection and urgent need. Emotion acts like a trigger or amplifier that heightens intuition, psychic awareness, and non-local perception. In other words, psychic functioning tends to be spontaneous, relational, and meaning-driven, not dry, mechanical, or random.

So when labs try to isolate ESP into something testable, they often unintentionally remove the “fuel” that powers it. That doesn’t mean psychic ability can’t be studied. It just suggests that the conditions need to reflect the reality of how it works. Some parapsychologists are now experimenting with approaches that build in emotional engagement, intention, or even meditative states, which seem to yield more promising results.
